ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to introduce a new auto policy aimed at reducing vehicle prices and promoting local manufacturing.

Chairing a meeting on the proposed policy, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan said the new framework will be developed in consultation with all stakeholders.

He emphasized that boosting local production of auto parts will be a key focus, with plans to compile a comprehensive list of domestically manufactured components and provide them protection over the next five years.

The meeting also reviewed proposals to offer incentives for manufacturing electric vehicle (EV) parts and encouraging investment in new technologies.

Officials said the policy will help strengthen Pakistan’s automotive sector, increase exports, and ultimately bring down car prices through effective measures.

Authorities have also directed relevant bodies to ensure broad consultation to finalize a comprehensive and practical policy.
