TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said Tehran has begun reviewing new proposals put forward by the United States, while maintaining a firm stance in ongoing negotiations with Washington.
In its statement, the council said Iran has not yet issued a response to the latest US proposals, stressing that the interests of the Iranian nation will be defended “at all costs.”
The council further warned that as long as what it described as “enemy naval blockades” continue, restrictions over the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place. It added that any vessel passing through the strategic waterway would be required to pay a fee, and that maritime traffic would be regulated according to routes designated by Iran.
Separately, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref stated that Iran is responsible for the management of the Strait of Hormuz, saying that either Iran’s rights will be secured through negotiations or the country would be prepared for confrontation.
