Iran Not to Open Strait of Hormuz Until Its Rights Are Recognized

TEHRAN: The Iranian government will not allow the Strait of Hormuz to remain fully open unless its rights are formally recognized, according to Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

In remarks reported by Iranian media, Rezaei said Iran would not back down on its position regarding the strategic waterway until what he described as its legitimate rights are acknowledged.

He added that the United States is “afraid of prolonged war,” while Iran is fully prepared for a long confrontation and has extensive experience in such situations.

Rezaei further stated that although he follows the decisions of the country’s leadership, in his personal view Iran should not agree to a short-term ceasefire extension with the United States.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, and any disruption in the area is closely watched by global markets.
