LAHORE: A special court in Lahore has sentenced a man convicted of visa fraud to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs500,000, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said on Thursday.

According to the FIA, the Special Central Court-II also ordered the convict, identified as Muhammad Boota, to pay Rs300,000 in compensation to the victim.

The agency said the convict had deceived a citizen by promising a Dubai work visa and fraudulently obtained Rs225,000. A case was registered against him in 2017 at the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Lahore.

The FIA credited the conviction to its investigation and the effective prosecution of the case by Assistant Director (Legal) Iqra Altaf.

Following the verdict, the court ordered the convict to be taken into custody and sent to jail.
