Millions Gather in Tehran to Pay Final Respects to Supreme Leader

TEHRAN: Public viewing for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has begun in Tehran as preparations for his funeral ceremonies enter their final stage.

His body has been placed at the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya, where members of the public, senior officials, and dignitaries are paying their final respects.

Authorities have implemented extensive security measures across the capital, particularly around Mosalla-e-Kabir and other key locations, as millions of mourners are expected to participate in the funeral ceremonies.

In a condolence message, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described Khamenei’s death as a profound loss for the Muslim world. He said the late leader’s passing marked not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new chapter of unity, resilience, and national progress.

The president also urged the Iranian people to attend the funeral in large numbers as a demonstration of national solidarity.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that a symbolic sculpture associated with Ayatollah Khamenei has been installed at Tehran’s Enghelab Square as part of the funeral preparations. A nationwide atmosphere of mourning continues across the country.
