ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday underscored Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and peace-oriented foreign policy during his address to the National Assembly, emphasizing that dialogue and cooperation remain central to resolving regional and international disputes.

Addressing the National Assembly, he said Pakistan had consistently supported diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation in sensitive geopolitical situations, including recent developments linked to US–Iran engagement.

He stated that Pakistan’s position had always been to encourage negotiations rather than confrontation, stressing that lasting peace is essential for regional stability and global economic progress.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic outreach, noting that Pakistan maintains active communication with key regional and global partners. He said the country continues to play a constructive role by facilitating understanding among stakeholders and promoting dialogue in times of heightened tensions.

Referring to Pakistan’s broader foreign policy vision, the Prime Minister reiterated the doctrine of “peaceful neighbourhoods,” adding that economic development and regional stability are closely interconnected. He said Pakistan aims to act as a bridge between different regions, encouraging cooperation over conflict.

He also acknowledged the importance of collective international engagement, stating that diplomatic progress is only possible when all sides remain committed to negotiation. He warned that escalation benefits no party and instead deepens instability.

The Prime Minister further reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue supporting diplomatic initiatives at regional and global forums, with a focus on peace-building, stability, and mutual cooperation.
