Passing MDCAT Made Mandatory for Medical Education Abroad
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has made it mandatory for students to pass the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) before pursuing medical or dental education abroad, as part of new reforms introduced in the education sector.
Under the updated policy by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, students must also register with the council prior to enrolling in foreign medical institutions.
The decision was taken under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to ensure quality standards and regulate overseas medical education.
Authorities have also made it mandatory that foreign institutions be recognized by relevant global accrediting bodies, while graduates will be required to pass a national licensing exam upon returning to Pakistan.
The move aims to improve transparency, maintain academic standards, and align Pakistan’s medical education system with international requirements.
