PM Departs for Iran to Attend Khamenei’s Funeral
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Tehran on Friday to attend the funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The prime minister is accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
During the one-day visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will attend the funeral ceremony and convey condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership and the bereaved families. He is also expected to reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Iran during the period of mourning.
Following the funeral, the prime minister will depart Tehran for Istanbul to continue his official engagements.
