PM Imran Khan’s visit to Afghanistan sets a new example of austerity

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday paid a one-day visit to Afghanistan with his delegation. The visit marked the beginning of a new era in Pak-Afghan relations and also set a new precedent for austerity. Only 11,000 was spent on the visit from the state treasury.

If we look at the past visits of Pakistani rulers to Afghanistan, the difference becomes clear. Former President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to Afghanistan in 2009 cost 44,000.

Similarly, former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf visited Afghanistan in 2012 and spent 51,000 on it.

Not only that, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Kabul in 2015 and his visit cost 58,000 from the state exchequer. Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Afghanistan was spent many times less than in the past.
