ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will boycott the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, saying it will not participate in the electoral process under the current circumstances.

In a statement, the party said resolving the ongoing crisis in Azad Kashmir should take priority over holding elections. It called for the demands of the Joint Awami Action Committee to be addressed and urged authorities to ensure a level playing field for all political parties.

PTI also demanded a review of the election schedule and called for an end to actions against political workers. The party said it would not take part in the electoral process until free and fair elections are guaranteed.

The party’s parliamentary board has suspended all ticket recommendations and postponed the issuance of election tickets.

PTI said it would continue to support the democratic rights of the people of Azad Kashmir and would not launch an election campaign until the current crisis is resolved.
