PTI nominates Omar Ayub for PM’s slot

After meeting Imran Khan in jail, Asad Qaiser says he has been tasked with holding talks with political parties, including PPP.

RAWALPINDI: Former minister Omar Ayub has been nominated by PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan as the party’s candidate for the slot of prime minister.

This was stated by former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser after meeting Imran Khan at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Qaiser said that he met Imran Khan after 10 months and discussed with him the evolving political situation in the country after the Feb 8th general elections. He said the elections were rigged and results tampered with and the seats of the PTI stolen.

He said he had been given the task of holding talks with all political parties, including the PPP. The PTI would also approach all those political parties who have announced to launch protests against rigging in the elections.

It may be noted that JUI-F chief Molana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday announced to sit in the opposition and launch a protest move against the poll rigging.

Qaiser said his party would hold talks with JUI-F, ANP, Jamaat e Islami and all nationalist parties, adding the PTI would sit in the assemblies and also continue legal fights for the irregularities committed in the elections to steal its seats.

He also said that the US and other western countries were being approached to take notice of the irregularities in the elections as they always claimed to be champion of democracy.

He was of the view that in order to ensure rule of law and democracy in the country, public mandate should be respected and the party that won majority seats should be invited to form a government. In case of violation of the public mandate, the PTI would go to the people to launch their protest, he added.
