ISLAMABAD: A powerful rainstorm accompanied by strong winds and intense hail hit the federal capital on Tuesday, causing widespread disruption and damage across several areas.
Residents in different sectors of Islamabad reported heavy hail, with some hailstones as large as marbles, pelting down for several minutes. The force of the hailstorm shattered windshields of vehicles and broke window panes in homes and buildings.
The storm was also accompanied by strong gusts of wind, which uprooted trees and damaged signboards in various parts of the city. Emergency services were seen clearing roads of fallen branches and debris.
The unexpected weather event brought an abrupt end to the spell of sweltering heat that had gripped Islamabad and Rawalpindi over the past week. The temperature dropped significantly following the storm, providing relief to residents but also raising concerns about potential property damage.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay cautious and avoid parking vehicles under trees or weak structures as more unstable weather is forecast in the coming days.
