SC fines former chief justice, plea dismissed

Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan on Tuesday submitted details of 102 accused who were in military custody in connection with the May 9 riots of May 9.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court court of Pakistan on Monday find s former chief justice and also dismissed his petition filed in the court.

A seven-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan took up the petition of former chief justice of Pakistan Jawad S. Khawaja filed against the trial of civilians in the military courts.

The petition sought that the military trials of civilians should be suspended till the final adjudication of petitions against the 26th constitutional amendment.

The judges of the bench told the lawyer of the petitioner that the 26th amendment was passed by the parliament following which the judicial bench was constituted. They said that the counsel for the petitioner had been using delaying tactics.

The court dismissed the petition and also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on the former chief justice of Pakistan.
