Shehbaz Attends Funeral of Iran’s Late Supreme Leader

TEHRAN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran on Friday at the invitation of Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian.

Leading a Pakistani delegation, the prime minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and senior government officials.

During the solemn ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to the late Iranian leader, recalling his lifelong contributions to Islam and acknowledging his decades of leadership marked by wisdom and statesmanship. He expressed Pakistan’s heartfelt condolences and solidarity with Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, and the people of Iran during their time of national mourning.

The prime minister also offered prayers for the forgiveness and eternal peace of the departed leader.

A separate parliamentary delegation, led by Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also attended the funeral. The delegation included several parliamentarians and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Following the funeral ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed Tehran for Istanbul to begin his official visit to Türkiye.
