SJC takes up complaints against two apex court judges

Complaint against justice Sardar Tariq Masood dismissed, case against another judge challenged in Supreme Court.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Court held a meeting here on Monday and took up complaints against two sitting judges of the Supreme Court.

Chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the SJC dismissed a complaint filed by Lahore-based human rights activist Amna Masood against Justice Sardar Tariq Masood.

The complaint related to the tax returns of the senior judge. However, the SJC after debating and checking the documents dismissed it.

Amna Mlik told reporters outside the SC building that she was questioned by the judges for an hour and then allowed to go. Sources said Justice Masood produced details of his income tax returns and the council did not find any discrepancy in it and dismissed the case.

The SJC later adjourned the hearing of the complaint against Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi till after the break and took it up in the evening.  However, Justice Naqvi filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the reference against him in the SJC. The petition claimed that the reference against him was an attack on the independence of judiciary.
