Spring Festival of Kalash Tribe Concludes
CHITRAL: The Chilam Josht festival, the largest cultural event of the Kalash community, concluded this week in the three Kalash valleys of Chitral.
Thousands of Kalash men and women participated in the festival’s main procession, waving branches of apricot and walnut trees in a vibrant celebration that ended peacefully and successfully.
On the final day of the five-day festival, the main procession moved through the three valleys, culminating in the central valley of Bamburet. The parade concluded at the traditional dance ground, Charsoo, where Kalash men, women, and youth, dressed in their distinctive traditional attire, danced collectively for hours to the beat of drums.
Chilam Josht marks the beginning of a new season and spans five days, during which several religious and cultural rituals are observed. The most prominent of these is the traditional procession. This year, over a thousand people from the Kalash community participated in the parade, carrying fresh branches of apricot and walnut trees.
According to Kalash traditions, these branches symbolize prosperity, peace, a bountiful harvest, and the arrival of the new season.
