RIYADH: Saudi authorities have deported thousands of illegal residents as part of a nationwide crackdown carried out over the past week.
According to Saudi media, security forces arrested a total of 10,725 undocumented individuals between June 4 and June 10 during joint inspection campaigns conducted in coordination with relevant government agencies.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior stated that among those detained were 5,899 individuals for violating residency laws, 3,084 for breaching border security regulations, and 1,742 for violating labor laws.
Authorities further revealed that 7,989 individuals were deported, while 14,268 detainees were referred to their respective embassies to obtain travel documents.
In addition, 1,418 individuals were arrested while attempting to illegally enter the Kingdom. Of these, 43% were Yemeni nationals, 55% Ethiopian, and 2% from other nationalities. Another 34 individuals were detained while trying to illegally exit the country.
The ongoing crackdown is part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to enforce immigration laws and regulate the labor market.
