ISLAMABAD: The suspect in the murder of TikToker Sana Yusuf has been sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand for an identification parade, following his arrest a day earlier.
Suspect Umar Hayat was presented before Duty Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad on Tuesday. During the proceedings, the duty prosecutor read out the contents of the FIR registered in connection with the murder case.
However, the court expressed strong displeasure over the absence of the concerned prosecutor and the district public prosecutor. Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad questioned: “Where is the prosecutor assigned to my court? Normally they don’t show up, but in a high-profile case, everyone wants to appear. Call the district public prosecutor to the courtroom.”
In response, the duty prosecutor informed the court that the regular prosecutor is currently on leave, and further proceedings would continue once the district prosecutor is present.
The court subsequently remanded Umar Hayat to judicial custody for 14 days, directing jail authorities to carry out an identification parade as part of the investigation.
It is pertinent to mention that Umar Hayat was arrested on Monday and, according to police, he confessed to the murder during initial interrogation.
The case has drawn significant public attention, as Sana had gained considerable popularity on social media prior to her murder in G-13 Islamabad on June 2.
