Trump Thanks Pakistan, Calls Sharif and Munir ‘Brilliant People’
WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again expressed gratitude toward Pakistan’s leadership, praising Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing them as “brilliant people.”
In a post shared on the social media platform Truth Social, and later reposted on X, President Trump wrote: “Thank you Pakistan and its great Prime Minister and Field Marshal. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir are both brilliant people.”
The statement adds to a series of recent positive remarks by the U.S. president about Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership. Trump has previously referred to both leaders as “excellent personalities” following their high-level engagement in Washington in September 2025, when Prime Minister Sharif and Field Marshal Munir met him at the White House.
Observers note that the renewed appreciation comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement involving Pakistan, particularly its reported role in facilitating communication channels between Washington and Tehran during ongoing regional tensions.
Diplomatic sources suggest that Pakistan’s backchannel efforts, alongside developments in U.S.–Iran discussions, have coincided with recent Iranian announcements regarding the temporary easing of restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping.
These developments have further highlighted Islamabad’s emerging role as a regional mediator.
