ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Security Council should implement its resolutions passed decades ago to give the right of self-determination to the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
This was Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam while speaking at the inauguration of of a two-day event titled “Kashmir: Paradise on Earth)” organised by the Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training at Islamabad Model College for Girls F-8/1.
The minister said the international community had the obligation towards the people of occupied Kashmir and it was also necessary for the UN to get its resolutions implemented by holding a plebiscite on Kashmir without further delay in order to enhance its credibility and fulfills its mandate of maintaining peace in the world.
He was of the view that unless the issue of Kashmir is resolved there would be no durable peace in South Asia. He said India had been committing human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and killed 96,000 Kashmiris since 1989. Moreover, thousands of Kashmiris, including top Hurriyat leadership, had been illegally imprisoned in Indian jails.
The minister urged the United Nations to play role for the implementation of its resolutions regarding plebiscite in IIOJ&K.
A large turnout of students, teachers and individuals from various walks of life also attended the event.
