TAROUBA: West Indies secured a 90-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, as the visitors’ batting lineup collapsed while chasing a target of 211 runs.
Pakistan were bowled out for 120 runs in their second innings, falling short of the required target despite captain Babar Azam remaining unbeaten on 58 runs.
Pakistan’s chase got off to a poor start as several top-order batters failed to settle. Agha Salman was dismissed without scoring, while Imam-ul-Haq, Azan Awais and Shan Masood contributed only three runs each.
Ali Usman scored two runs, Khurram Shahzad made four, while Aamer Jamal and Mohammad Ali were dismissed without scoring.
Eight Pakistani batters failed to reach double figures as the West Indies bowlers dominated the final day’s play.
Earlier, West Indies resumed their second innings at 126 for seven and were bowled out for 181 runs, giving Pakistan a target of 211. Mohammad Abbas was Pakistan’s leading bowler, taking five wickets, while Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali claimed two wickets each.
West Indies had posted 311 runs in their first innings, after which Pakistan were dismissed for 282, giving the hosts an early advantage in the match.
Speaking after the defeat, Pakistan captain Babar Azam said the team had played good cricket overall but failed to perform with the bat on the final day. He acknowledged the challenge posed by the new ball and said the team would look to make a comeback in the next Test.
The victory gave West Indies a strong start in the Test series against Pakistan.
