ISLAMABAD: The Saudi government has appointed Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy as its new ambassador to Pakistan, with the newly designated envoy expected to assume charge soon.
Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy retired from the rank of major general in 2024 and subsequently joined the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was appointed as an ambassador.
He has now been nominated as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan. He took the oath of office before Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday.
Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy obtained a PhD in Human Resource Management (HRM) from Brunel University London in 2015.
The newly appointed ambassador will soon assume his responsibilities in Pakistan.
Strategic Partnership Expands
His appointment comes less than a year after Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement. The pact states that aggression against either country would be treated as an attack on both, formalizing decades of military cooperation.
The two countries have also strengthened economic relations in recent years. Saudi Arabia has pledged billions of dollars in investments under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 strategy while continuing financial assistance that has helped Pakistan manage recurring balance-of-payments challenges.
Riyadh remains one of Pakistan’s largest suppliers of oil on deferred payment. The Kingdom has also deposited billions of dollars with Pakistan’s central bank over the years, helping strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves and support economic stability.
