HANGU: Eight terrorists were killed and seven police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were martyred during an attack on the Khazina Banda checkpost in Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said.
According to police, an exchange of fire took place during an operation against militants in the area. DSP Diyar Khan and six other police personnel lost their lives while confronting the attackers.
Police said 22 personnel, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, were also injured during the operation. The wounded officers were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Security forces cordoned off the area and intensified search operations following the attack. Authorities said the operation against militants was continuing.
Senior police officials paid tribute to the martyred personnel and said all possible medical facilities were being provided to the injured. They vowed that the sacrifices of the fallen officers would not be allowed to go in vain.
