ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has deregistered four political parties for failing to meet mandatory legal requirements and issued notifications to this effect.
The deregistered parties include Technology Movement Pakistan, Awami Democratic Party Pakistan, Hum Awam Pakistan Party, and Pakistan Reform Party.
According to the ECP, the parties were removed from the list for failing to conduct intra-party elections, submit annual financial statements and fulfill other required formalities.
Following the cancellations, the number of political parties registered with the ECP has fallen to 164.
The commission has previously deregistered several other parties, including the Pak Sarzameen Party and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Tehreek, as part of its ongoing scrutiny of political parties’ compliance with electoral laws.
