After Pakistan, Russia Offers to Mediate Iran-US Conflict

ISLAMABAD: Following Pakistan’s mediation efforts, Russia has also offered to play a role in resolving tensions between Iran and the United States.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made the offer during a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing readiness to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

According to a statement issued by the Russian government, President Putin emphasized the need for a fair and lasting solution through dialogue and diplomacy. He reiterated Russia’s willingness to support negotiations and contribute to mediation efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation.

Earlier, talks between the United States and Iran held in Islamabad under Pakistan’s facilitation showed encouraging signs of progress. The negotiations, which lasted over 21 hours, concluded with all sides indicating that diplomatic engagement would continue.

Speaking after the conclusion of the Islamabad peace talks, US President Donald Trump described the discussions as largely positive on most issues, though no breakthrough was achieved on the nuclear dispute.

Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf responded cautiously on social media platform X following the talks. While acknowledging the constructive role played by Pakistan, he also expressed continued distrust toward the United States.
