WASHINGTON: America has asked its citizens to immediately leave Lebanon as tension flared up following Israeli attacks on Hizbullah targets in the country.
An advisory issued by the US government stated that American citizens should leave Lebanon without any delay as a security precaution. After the advisory, there were reports of US nationals catching flights out of Lebanon.
On the other hand, the government of Israel warned that Hizbullah may carry out major attacks on Haifa and other norther parts of the country within the next 24 hours.
Tension flared up after Israel conducted over 400 attacks in 290 targets of Hizbullah inside Lebanon. In retaliation, Hizbullah conducted 90 rocket attacks on Israel.
Earlier, Israel killed the commander of Hizbullah’s Rizwan Force along with 16 of his deputies. Besides, 37 other people were martyred in Israeli attacks in different parts of Lebanon.
The strike inflicted another blow on Hezbollah after the group suffered an unprecedented attack earlier this week in which pagers and walkie talkies used by its members exploded, killing 37 people and wounding thousands.
That attack was widely believed to have been carried out by Israel, which has neither confirmed or denied its involvement, according to Reuters news agency.
