Babar Azam Equals Virat Kohli’s World Record
KARACHI: Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam has equaled a major world record held by Indian batting legend Virat Kohli, after an outstanding performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Representing Peshawar Zalmi, Babar played a blistering unbeaten century against Quetta Gladiators. His innings came off just 52 balls, marking his fastest PSL century to date and ending a long wait for a hundred in the tournament.
The right-handed batter scored 6 fours and 4 sixes during his innings and remarkably faced only one dot ball throughout the knock, showcasing exceptional control and timing.
With this performance, Babar Azam reached a milestone of 12 T20 centuries in his career, bringing him closer to West Indies power-hitter Chris Gayle in the all-time list of T20 centurions.
More significantly, Babar equaled Virat Kohli’s world record of most century partnerships in T20 cricket, with both players now tied at 47 such partnerships.
His captaincy innings helped Peshawar Zalmi post a massive total of 255 runs, which is among the highest team totals in PSL history and a record score at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
Quetta Gladiators’ bowlers struggled to contain Zalmi’s batting lineup, as none were able to control the scoring rate during the match.
Following this performance, Babar Azam has also moved into the list of players with the most PSL centuries, joining the likes of Kamran Akmal, Rilee Rossouw, and Usman Khan.
