LONDON: British Pakistani Mayor Sadiq Khan has been awarded the prestigious title of Knighthood by King Charles.

Sadiq Khan, who has been serving as the Mayor of London since 2016, made history by becoming the first person ever to be elected to the position three consecutive times.

Speaking about the honour, Sir Sadiq Khan shared that King Charles was delighted to confer the title during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. “It is an immense honour and source of pride to receive the Knighthood,” he said.

Sir Sadiq Khan reflected on his journey, stating that he grew up in a council house in Tooting and never imagined receiving such a high honour. “London promises that if you work hard, you will be helped and you can achieve whatever you set your heart on,” he added.

Born on October 8, 1970, in London, Sadiq Khan is the city’s first Muslim mayor. Throughout his political career, he has faced fierce opposition from far-right groups but has remained a resilient and popular figure.

His father moved from Pakistan to the UK shortly before Sadiq’s birth and worked as a bus driver. Sadiq Khan studied law at the University of North London, qualified as a solicitor in 1994, and gained prominence through his work in human rights, often taking on cases against the government and police.
