ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad discharged cases registered against 32 people arrested from D Chowk during the PTI protest last month.
The 32 arrested persons were brought to Islamabad from a jail in Jhelum and produced in the ATC late on Friday night seeking an extension in their remand.
When judge Abdul Hasnat Zulqurnain was called to the court, he reprimanded the police for bringing the suspects to the court at night.
When the judge took up the hearing, the investigation officer said that these people haf been arrested from D Chowk during the PTI protest. He said that the identification parade of the suspects was yet to be held and requested the judge to extend their remand for 30 days.
However, the the defense counsel told the court that in order to complete the number the police had arrested laborers who had no connection with the protest. He said that after picking up the laborers from different parts of Islamabad the police had shown them arrested in different cases registered in I-9 and Margalla police stations.
The judge, who was not happy with the police over late production of the suspects in the court, ordered police to open the handcuffs of the arrested persons and then discharged all of them from the cases registered against them.
The judge warned the police that if they arrested these 32 men again under any pretext he would handcuff them (police personnel).
