Chairman Senate supports open-ballot for Senate poll

ISLAMABAD: In presidential reference case, chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani while submitting written reply said that under Article 226 of the Constitution all elections except Prime Minister and Chief Ministers will be held by secret ballot. Under Election Act 2017, secret ballot is held for Senate.

In his reply, the chairman of the senate said that the court had always interpreted the constitution in the public interest and elected representatives were bound by party discipline.

According to the answer, those who voted against the party should have the courage to come forward, the representatives who voted voluntarily should also be ready for the results. If it is the job of the parliament to change the constitution, then it is up to the judiciary to interpret it.
