BEIJING: China has expressed serious concern over the reported seizure or forced interception of an Iranian cargo vessel, urging all parties to exercise restraint and uphold diplomatic commitments.

According to a statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a spokesperson said Beijing is “deeply concerned” about the incident and emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could escalate tensions in the region. China called on the involved sides to act responsibly and ensure compliance with ceasefire or de-escalation arrangements where applicable.

The Chinese government also reiterated its readiness to play a constructive role in facilitating potential dialogue between the United States and Iran, signaling its interest in supporting diplomatic efforts to reduce regional friction.

Meanwhile, Iran has reportedly ruled out any immediate plans for renewed talks with the United States. Iranian officials stated that current conditions do not allow for negotiations with Washington, accusing the U.S. of maintaining unchanged policies that continue to fuel instability in the region.

Iranian Foreign Ministry representatives further warned that continued pressure from the United States could worsen tensions and undermine regional security.
