Chitral-based senior journalist dies of heart attack

Gul Hamaad Farooqui was known for raising issues of Chitral in print and electronic media.

CHITRAL: Renowned journalist Gul Hamaad Farooqi passed away at about 4am on Saturday due to cardiac arrest.

According to the family, he was rushed to DHQ Hospital Chitral after complaining of chest pain at about 2am, but, unfortunately, he passed away in the hospital. His body was later shifted to his native Shabqadar town in Charsadda for burial.

He was a respected figure in the journalism community, known for his fearless reporting and in-depth coverage of various issues facing people in all parts of Chitral. The late journalist had contracted second marriage in Chitral and was settled at Singoor village.

His demise has sent shockwaves through his colleagues and friends as well as people of Chitral.

Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur expressed shock over the demise of the journalist.

Chitral Journalist Forum Peshawar mourned the loss of GH Farooqi. President Nadir Khawaja described him as a professional journalist. His death is a significant loss to the media industry. Colleagues and friends will remember him for his fearless reporting and dedication to journalism.

GH Farooqui was the only journalist who always highlighted in print and electronic media the burning issues even from remote areas of Chitral.

About five months back, he was attacked and injured by workers of a contractor for exposing substandard work on the Chitral-Shandur road.

Social media users paid tribute to the veteran journalist for his lifelong struggle as a strong voice of the people of Chitral. They prayed that may his soul rest in peace and may Allah give strength to his loved ones to bear the loss and pain caused by his untimely passing.
