Cholera Outbreak Hits Upper Dir, More Than 3,000 Affected

DIR: A cholera outbreak has been reported in several areas of Upper Dir district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with more than 3,000 people affected so far.

The outbreak has been reported in Ashirai Dara, Sheringal, Barawal and Dir town, according to officials.

Dr Sahibzada Imtiaz, medical superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital Upper Dir, said women and children are among those affected. He said around 600 patients were admitted to the hospital in a single day.

Some patients in critical condition are being shifted to other hospitals, while the district headquarters hospital is operating at full capacity due to the influx of patients.

Health Department teams have arrived in Upper Dir to contain the outbreak. Public health teams are also testing drinking water in affected areas and taking measures to improve the availability of safe water.

Health experts have advised residents to use clean drinking water and follow precautionary measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
