Clinical Practice by Psychologists & Dental Technicians Illegal: PMDC
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has declared the clinical practice of pharmacists, psychologists, and dental technicians as illegal.
According to PMDC, a formal letter has been sent to the Ministry of Health highlighting concerns over the rising trend of quackery in the country. The council warned that unqualified medical practice could lead to the spread of infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis, particularly in cities like Islamabad and Mirpurkhas.
The letter states that only qualified and registered doctors and dentists are authorised to diagnose, prescribe medicines, and perform treatments or surgeries.
It further clarifies that no allied health professional is allowed to prescribe medication or conduct medical treatment.
PMDC has urged the relevant authorities to immediately stop such unauthorised practices, terming them a serious threat to public health and human lives.
