Court Summons JUI Chief in Case Seeking FIR Over Speech

Fazal rejects poll results

GUJRANWALA: A court in Gujranwala has summoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on July 28 in connection with a petition seeking the registration of a criminal case over his alleged controversial speech.

The petition was filed by senior lawyer Manzoor Qadir Advocate. During the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Faisal Jamil ordered that a notice be issued to Fazlur Rehman for his appearance on July 28.

The court also directed the police to submit a report on the matter before the next hearing.

The petition requests the registration of an FIR against the JUI-F chief over remarks described by the petitioner as controversial. The court has yet to rule on the merits of the request.

It may be mentioned here that in his speech, the JUI chief came down hard on the establishment and said that after Balochistan, his own province, KP, was bleeding as police were unable to come out after sunset.

Referring to the army, he said when we talk of failure they tell us that our Jawans are embracing martyrdom fighting terrorists, adding that it was the job of the army as they were paid salaries from taxpayers money.
