ISLAMABAD: Significant progress has been made in enhancing digital connectivity in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with efforts underway to expand 4G services in remote areas.

Under the Special Communications Organization (SCO), the rollout of 4G infrastructure is being accelerated to improve access in underserved regions. Officials said a total of 47 new 4G towers are being installed across Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, of which 11 have already been made operational.

In addition, 53 out of 87 existing sites have been upgraded to improve service quality and network performance.

Authorities stated that the initiative aims to provide modern digital facilities to remote communities and strengthen communication systems. The project is expected to be completed by December 2026.

Improved digital connectivity is likely to create new opportunities in education, business, and employment in these regions. Officials added that SCO remains committed to expanding modern communication services across the country under the broader vision of Digital Pakistan.
