Eight more handed over to army for trial

Suspects were brought to anti-terrorism court Rawalpindi from Adiala jail in connection with May 9 GHQ attack.

RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Monday handed over eight persons allegedly involved in vandalism on May 9 to the army for trial in military courts.

The eight arrested persons were produced in the terrorism court where deputy prosecutor general Rafaqat Ali sought their handing over to the army. The court later approved the plea and ordered their handing over to the army.

The eight suspects were already in the Adiala jail in connection with the May 9 attack on GHQ.

“Superintendent Jail, Adiala, Rawalpindi is directed to hand over the custody of the above said accused person[s] to the commanding officer for further proceedings in accordance with law,” the court order read.

Earlier, 16 people allegedly involved in arson attacks on the corpse commander Lahore house were handed over to the Army for trial under the Army Act 1952.

The 16 arrested persons were produced before an Anti-Terrorism Court which ordered their handing over to the commanding officer of the army.

The commanding officer had pleaded to the terrorism court for custody of the suspects in the attacks on corps commander house. The court accepted the request and handed over the suspects to the army. Moreover, 14 suspects have also been handed over to the army in Mardan.
