GILGIT: Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shahbaz Khan has clarified that general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held on their scheduled time, rejecting reports suggesting any postponement.
Addressing a press conference, he said that all electoral rolls are accurate, transparent, and properly verified. He added that the elections will be conducted in accordance with the voter lists issued on April 10, 2026.
Raja Shahbaz Khan dismissed media reports regarding irregularities in voter lists, terming them baseless and misleading. He said such misinformation was aimed at creating confusion among the public and strongly condemned the spread of unverified news on social media.
He urged journalists and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing it, stressing that the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan would be conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and impartial manner.
The Chief Election Commissioner further stated that voter lists with photographs have already been printed and will be handed over to presiding officers through returning officers two days before the elections.
He reiterated that spreading rumors regarding electoral rolls is unacceptable and urged the public to rely only on official and verified sources of information.
