WASHINGTON: Tech billionaire and former ally of ex-President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, announced on Saturday the launch of a new political party in the United States, called “The America Party.”
The announcement was made via Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), where he stated: “Today, The America Party is founded to restore your freedom.”
Musk referenced a poll conducted on X in the same post, claiming that users favored the creation of a new political party by a two-to-one margin. “When it comes to bankrupting the country through waste and corruption, we’re not living in a democracy — we’re living under a one-party system,” he added.
Earlier, Musk had posted on X that Independence Day was the perfect time to ask whether Americans wanted freedom from the two-party system, which he suggested some people see as one and the same. In that post, he posed the question: “Should we found The America Party?”
The move is likely to shake up the traditional U.S. political landscape, as Musk continues to exert growing influence in political and media spheres.
