LAHORE: Prices of essential food items, including ghee, cooking oil, rice and spices, remain beyond the reach of low-income households in Lahore’s open market, with consumers continuing to wait for relief from rising inflation.
Despite expectations of a reduction in food prices, market rates for staple commodities have remained high, placing additional financial pressure on families struggling with the rising cost of living.
According to market prices, three varieties of ghee are being sold between Rs490 and Rs610 per kilogram. Sugar is available at Rs160 per kilogram, while packaged sugar is selling for Rs190 per kilogram.
Rice prices also remain elevated, ranging from Rs320 to Rs640 per kilogram depending on the variety.
Consumers said the continued increase in the prices of basic food items has made it increasingly difficult for low-income families to meet their daily household needs, and urged the government to take effective measures to reduce inflation and provide relief.
