Ex-AJK prime minister sent on physical remand

Rana Tanvir Ilyas was arrested in a case of attacking an office of a mall on May 19.

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister of Azad Kashmir Rana Tanvir Ilyas was on Tuesday handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency on a three-day physical remand.

The former AJK prime minister was arrested in connection with a case registered against him on May 19 on the charge of attacking the office of a mall.

The FIA today produced him in the court of district and session judge and sought his physical remand for eight days. However, the judge allowed his remand for three days.

The FIA said they needed an investigation about Mr Tanvir’s alleged misuse of a diplomatic passport. It said the accused was a former prime minister of AJK and was still using a diplomatic passport and visited Saudi Arabia on it recently.

They said despite reminder he was not returning the diplomatic passport. The judge said that as a former prime minister, Mr Ilyas can use the diplomatic passport.
