LAHORE: The Punjab Film City Authority Act 2025 has been formally presented in the Punjab Assembly, marking a significant step toward the structured development of the province’s film, drama, and documentary production industry.

According to the proposed legislation, the Government of Punjab has decided to establish a Punjab Film City Authority aimed at promoting and regulating film production activities across the province. The authority will be responsible for facilitating filmmakers and supporting the growth of the entertainment sector through a coordinated policy framework.

Officials said the authority will be funded by the provincial government and will also have access to dedicated resources to encourage investment and development in the film industry. The initiative is designed to strengthen local creative industries and create new opportunities for talent development.

Under the proposed system, a comprehensive film policy will be introduced along with clear rules, regulations, and a licensing mechanism. A one-window facility will also be established to simplify approvals and permissions for filmmakers and production houses.

The proposed law also includes special incentives aimed at attracting both local and foreign investment. Plans are also being considered for the development of film studios, a dedicated film city, and modern post-production facilities to support high-quality content creation.

In addition, training programs will be launched to nurture new talent in the film and media industry. A system of funding, grants, and subsidies is also part of the proposed framework to support filmmakers and production companies.

The authority will also be empowered to address complaints and resolve operational issues faced by stakeholders in the industry.

The bill has been referred to the relevant committee for detailed review over the next two months. After examination and recommendations by the committee, it will be presented again in the Punjab Assembly for approval, followed by final assent from the Governor of Punjab.
