ISLAMABAD: A massive fire broke out at the H-9 Sunday Market in , destroying at least 335 shops and stalls, rescue officials said on Wednesday.
According to rescue authorities, the blaze was intensified by explosions of batteries stored inside several stalls which caused the fire to spread rapidly across the market. Initial reports suggest that the fire was triggered by a short circuit.
Firefighting teams battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control. Cooling operations were still underway to prevent the fire from reigniting.
Officials confirmed that hundreds of vendors suffered losses as their stalls were completely gutted. No immediate reports of casualties were received, while authorities have launched further investigations into the incident.
