Pakistan calls for lasting peace in Palestine

Special Correspondent

NEW YORK: At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for a complete and immediate ceasefire in Gaza, saying that the international community should give priority to the establishment of lasting peace in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Pakistan’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, while briefing the Security Council, said that Israel’s aggression in the West Bank should be stopped immediately. Humanitarian aid cannot be used as a weapon.

Mr Iftikhar called for a complete and immediate ceasefire in Gaza and said that the root of the unrest in the Middle East is the illegal occupation of Israel, adding the international community should encourage the establishment of lasting peace in the occupied Palestinian territories.

He urged the Security Council to stand firm against the forcible eviction of Palestinians.
