Rising Inflation Pushes Essential Goods Out of Reach

KARACHI: The ongoing inflationary pressure in Pakistan has further worsened conditions for low-income groups as prices of essential commodities continue to rise sharply, making basic household items increasingly unaffordable.

Citizens reported that the cost of rice, sugar, ghee, cooking oil, detergent, and other daily-use items has surged, putting severe strain on household budgets. Packaged milk has also reached between Rs370 and Rs400 per litre in the market.

Meanwhile, official price controls appear to be largely ineffective, as government-set rates are not being followed. Milk, officially priced at Rs170 per litre, is being sold in the range of Rs220 to Rs240 per litre, while yoghurt, fixed at Rs190 per kilogram, is available in markets at Rs240 to Rs260 per kilogram.

Consumers have urged authorities to take immediate action to enforce official price lists and bring relief to inflation-hit households, as the gap between official and market rates continues to widen.
