KARACHI: The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has signed a landmark agreement for the installation of a modern Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) aimed at strengthening maritime security and improving monitoring of activities at sea.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at the PMSA Headquarters in Karachi. The Secretary of Defence attended the event as the chief guest, while representatives of federal and provincial governments and senior officials from the maritime sector were also present.
According to officials, the new monitoring system will play an important role in enhancing Pakistan’s maritime security and maritime domain awareness. It is also expected to contribute to the safety of fishermen, protection of maritime interests and sustainable use of marine resources.
The modern system will further strengthen the protection of Pakistan’s maritime interests and important marine resources. The PMSA said it remains committed to adopting modern technologies to safeguard national maritime interests and enhance security at sea.
Officials described the agreement as a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s internal and external maritime security while supporting development initiatives in the country’s maritime sector.
