ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a significant reduction in tariffs at Gwadar Port as part of efforts to increase international transit and transshipment traffic and strengthen Pakistan’s role as a regional logistics hub.

According to Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, the new policy includes substantial cuts in port charges for cargo operations. He said container vessel berthing fees have been reduced by 25 percent, while charges on international transshipment containers have been cut by 40 percent.

He further stated that transit container cargo charges have been reduced by up to 31 percent to make the port more competitive compared to other regional ports. In addition, a one-month free storage facility has been introduced for general cargo.

The minister said that additional incentives have also been extended to vessels handling transit and transshipment cargo, aiming to attract more shipping lines to Gwadar.

He added that the government is actively implementing its policy to develop Gwadar into a major regional logistics and trade center, which is expected to enhance economic activity and international connectivity through Pakistan’s southern corridor.

Officials believe the tariff reductions will help position Gwadar Port as a key gateway for global trade routes, particularly for landlocked Central Asian markets, while improving overall cargo handling capacity and port utilization.
