High-level Saudi delegation due in Pakistan today

Visit to expedite follow up on understanding reached between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and crown prince.

ISLAMABAD: In the wake of the Iranian retaliatory missile and drone attacks on Israel, a high-level Saudi delegation is arriving in Pakistan on Monday to hold talks on key bilateral ties and regional issues.

The delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah. Its members include Saudi Minister of Water and Agriculture, Eng Abdul Rahman Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadley, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Ibrahim AlKhorayef, Deputy Minister of Investment, Badr AlBadr, Head of Saudi Special Committee, Mohammad Mazyed Al Towaijri.

Though the state news agency and Radio Pakistan said that the visit was already scheduled as a follow up on the understanding reached between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman, the changing world scenario after the Iran-Israel tension will dominate the talks.

Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reacted to the Iranian attacks on Israel cautiously. Pakistan said that it was monitoring the situation with concerns.

Being two important nations in the Muslim world, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia can play an important role in defusing tension in the Middle East as both have close relations with the United States.

The Saudi delegation will also meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the chief of army staff and apex committee of SIFC.
