India conspiring to crush Kashmiris’ freedom struggle, says leader

International community urged to take notice of rights abuses in occupied territory.

GENEVA: A leader of the Kashmir liberation movement here called upon the international community to take notice of Indian plan to crush the peaceful struggle of the people of Kashmir for their right to self-determination.

Speaking at the 55th neeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Kashmiri leader Altaf Hussain Wani deliberated on the systematic Indian move to change the demography of Kashmir by illegally settling outsiders in the disputed territory.

Wani is head of the Kashmir Substitute for International Relations. He said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the disputed territory where people are being denied access to modern means of communication let alone rule of law and access to justice.

Another Kashmiri leader Amjad Yousuf told the gathering that India has been rampantly violating basic human rights in the occupied territory. He said the extremist policies of the BJP had destroyed the social fabrics of society in the occupied Kashmir.

Yousuf said that arbitrary arrests, abductions and illegal detention have become order of the day in the occupied territory. He said that the occupying forces were picking innocent Kashmiris to silence their voice.
