Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz After Lebanon Ceasefire Agreement

TEHRAN: Iran has announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping following a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, easing tensions in one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on social media that all commercial vessels would be allowed to transit through the Strait during the remaining period of the ceasefire. He added that the decision has been implemented in coordination with Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, ensuring regulated and secure maritime movement.

The announcement comes after reports of a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which was confirmed earlier by international media and welcomed by regional stakeholders. Analysts say the move is expected to stabilize oil shipments and restore limited confidence in global shipping lanes that had been disrupted amid recent tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global energy supplies, had seen restricted maritime activity in recent days due to heightened regional conflict. Iran’s decision to reopen the passage is likely to ease pressure on global oil markets and shipping insurers, though observers caution that the situation remains fragile.

Further diplomatic developments are expected as international actors continue efforts to maintain the ceasefire and prevent escalation in the wider Middle East region.
